STEM Challenger Experience Day
On Thursday, 32 Year 8 students were selected to take part in a fantastic STEM opportunity.
A local engineering company called ‘Beldam Crossley’ kindly offered to sponsor Smithills School to partake in the day, which was delivered by the charity ‘Industrial Cadets’. They are a widely recognised, accredited awards scheme providing industry-based experiences for young people. The event was a hands-on, interactive STEM workshop which saw the students programming a ‘Spheros’ robot to complete a range of tasks; that culminated in their final challenge of building a bridge which they had to program the ‘Spheros’ robot then to move across successfully.

The workshop provided them with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to excel in the ever-evolving world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Each student who took part received the Industrial Cadets Challenger accreditation, which will look great on any future college/ job applications.
