As a Smithills tradition, every year we observe a two minute silence for Remembrance Day at the front of school.
Our new Head boy and girl for the academic year 2020/21, read a short remembrance poem and was joined by staff in remembering the fallen.
Khalil, Smithills Head boy said, "This was a tremendous honour to have the opportunity to read a poem of remembrance and be joined by teachers and support staff at the school. This is something I will remember for a very long time".
Dania, Smithills Head girl echoed Khalil in the honour it was to read a poem of remembrance and added, "It's always been a lovely gesture of remembrance that Smithills have done over the years and to be a part of it was a privilege".
We also had one of our musicians play the last post as the flag outside the front of the school was lowered and then raised during the service.
A mosaic of poppies was also placed at the front of the school, which was decorated by numerous pupils at Smithills and put together by our very own Mrs Goldie.
