GREASE
Smithills School are once again hitting the stage this autumn with the ever popular Grease, The Musical. The revised written musical, provided through Theatrical Rights Worldwide, ensures the context is suitable for young people. Pupils from Smithills School in Years 7-11 have been busy rehearsing and learning the ever famous songs, choreography and lines.
Pupils attend regularly during lunchtimes and after school to make sure the production will be a success. We also have pupils who are interested in the technical side of theatre and are undertaking a role in set design, costume, props and lighting.
Rowan, a Year 10 Production pupil states, ‘I am really excited to be part of the school production again, it gives me the opportunity to explore and produce lighting designs and effects for a production, this will be my fourth year being part of this and being a lighting designer is something that I want to do as a career.’
Nicholas, who plays Danny in Grease is also very excited to be taking the leading role, he states ‘I enjoy doing Grease because it helps develop my vocal skills and my acting skills which further supports my confidence’.

PERFORMANCE
Throughout the musical, the whole group go on a journey of singing and dancing their way through such nostalgic scenes as the pyjama party, the prom, the burger palace, and the drive-in movie.
Mr Milthorpe, Head of Faculty for Performing Arts and PE states, ‘We are very excited once again to presenting our annual school production to the local community and primary schools, our pupils consistently demonstrate the school values of excellence, independence and community throughout the preparation and performance, on behalf of the department we are always proud of what our pupils can do and achieve’.
The production took place from Monday 13th to Wednesday 15th November at 7 pm in the school's main hall
