Our Headteacher, Miss Dewse, welcomes you to our Open Evening event on Wednesday, 17th September, from 4 to 7 p.m. Don't worry if you can't attend the event, as we also have two Open Mornings scheduled for Tuesday, 23rd September, at 9:30 a.m., and Wednesday, 8th October, at 9:30 a.m.

What a fantastic evening we had last night celebrating the Arts at Smithills School. From Hair and Beauty to Performing Arts, we had it all and are so proud of everyone involved in making the event happen. It was an extra special evening as Mrs Elliott, one of our outstanding members of the Performing Arts faculty, will be leaving us at the end of this term to enjoy a well-deserved retirement. We wish her all the best in the future and a happy retirement.

A local engineering company called ‘Beldam Crossley’ kindly offered to sponsor Smithills School to partake in the day, which was delivered by the charity ‘Industrial Cadets’. They are a widely recognised, accredited awards scheme providing industry-based experiences for young people. The event was a hands-on, interactive STEM workshop which saw the students programming a ‘Spheros’ robot to complete a range of tasks; that culminated in their final challenge of building a bridge which they had to then program the ‘Spheros’ robot to move across successfully. The workshop provided them with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to excel in the ever-evolving world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Each student who took part received the Industrial Cadets Challenger accreditation, which will look great on any future college/ job applications.

We are pleased to share with you all our latest promotional film from this years work experience week. We had 50 pupils in school where they completed lots of workshops around careers. Additionally they completed a full day doing first aid and also participated in an enterprise day with Adam Corbally from the Apprentice (runner up).
