Our New Year 7 (2020)

WELCOME  to the Transition section of our website.

We have set this up especially for you if you are joining us from your primary school in September 2020.

We all know that things are different at the moment and we can’t invite you into Smithills to look around, meet your teachers and have a go at some lessons. So, we are creating videos, letters and other bits and pieces to help you know more about Smithills from your own home and school.

We will post new information on here all the time. But, if you don’t find the information you need or you have a question about starting at Smithills, then please contact us below and a member of staff will answer you as quickly as possible.

Take care and stay safe.

YEAR 7 LETTER TO YEAR 6'S

As a year seven (when you come to Smithills I will be in year eight) I know that coming to high school is scary. In fact, I was the only one in my school coming to Smithills, so I didn’t know anyone. But it’s ok! Even if you know no one you will make lots of friends really quickly.

I know that this year will be quite different due to Coronavirus. The best thing to do though is to stay calm. There are many things that could help but it all depends on who you are. Some people find drawing calming, others (some may not believe it) find school work calming. But no matter who you are and what personality you have, Smithills school will welcome you with open arms. You are a part of the Smithills family so we all will help you through these hard times, teachers and students alike.

Some of my favourite things about Smithills, well, I can’t list them all but here are some. Key stage 3 is always open for you if you need something (a pen if you’ve lost yours, help if you’ve fallen out with someone etc). Teachers are always willing to help you with pretty much anything, and most of all, the support that you get from members of the Smithills family. Like I said these are not even a handful of things I love about this school. Also, if you’re having your doubts about how you will do in work or just in school in general, I believe you will do great. Everyone does.

When it comes to getting around school at first you may need some guidance, but don’t worry. On the first day some people are given maps and a small tour of some parts of the school with your form. There will be teachers telling you where the different rooms are whilst you’re walking around so don’t worry. So, I think that’s all you need to know for now.

         Yours sincerely,

        Ellie-Mai O’Neil
