Student Leadership

Our vision is for an active, approachable Student Leadership, who bridge the gap between students and staff. We want our fellow pupils to trust us to accomplish what they see as important tasks.

We will achieve this by consulting as many students as possible to ensure what we undertake is seen as a priority for the majority of pupils. We will do this by being visible, though assemblies, meetings and identifying items, such as badges, and by ensuring we are approachable, committed and trustworthy.

Over the last four years, we have:

  • Interviewed for the new Headteacher

  • Raised more than £2000 for different charities, including Jeans for Genes, Red Nose Day, Sports Relief and Children in Need

  • Organised the annual Year 11 Prom

  • Visited primary schools to meet potential new pupils

  • Raised the issue of a student common room, which is now in the future plans

This year, our priorities are:

  • Develop student leadership within all aspects of Smithills School

  • Create a Prom that meets the needs of the pupils

  • Provide feedback on the support available for Year 11 pupils

  • Be a voice for students in all year groups, raising issues directly with the Head

Got an idea about how to improve the school? Get involved by:

  • Asking the Head Boy/Girl and Deputies

  • Speaking to your Form Tutor and contact Mrs Goldie

  • Completing all questionnaires and surveys that are distributed

  • Use your Session 0 entry as a form to push for change

Not in Year 11 and want a role in Student Leadership?

We are looking for pupils in Years 7-10 who would like to take on roles in Student Leadership from Summer 2018.  If you think you could be a voice for our students in your year group please contact Mrs Goldie.
