Smithills School 100% Meeting Gatsby Benchmarks!

Smithills School are pleased to announce that we have now achieved 100% implementation of the Gatsby Benchmarks for the delivery of Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) in school.

This has only been made possible by the efforts of all our stakeholders.

The amazing staff at Smithills, both teaching and associate staff have been instrumental in both delivering CEIAG and supporting students in a range of activities and events, as well as keeping parents informed about CEIAG and the opportunities available for students.

Special thanks to our Careers and Enterprise Co-ordinator Jane Wells and Enterprise Advisor Carrie Riley from Bolton at Home who have been with us every step of the way to ensure we had an effective strategic action plan and to support us with employer engagements. Thanks also to GM Bridge and the Community of Practice led by Karl Grimes supporting careers leaders and staff with CPD opportunities throughout lockdown. This has enabled us to continue to work towards meeting the benchmarks and helped with the effective delivery of CEIAG throughout.

We would also like to thank all the employers who have worked with our students whether in person or virtually and the FE Colleges, Sixth Forms, Training Providers and HE establishments that continue to support the school and provide a wealth of opportunity and information for our students. This provides an opportunity to engage with them and also supports their Post 16 and Post 18 transition process.

Smithills students have shown real resilience and adaptability throughout these difficult times and have responded to opportunities to take part in a range of careers events and activities including;  National Careers Week; National  Apprenticeship Week;  Virtual Work Experience;  Virtual Talks with Speakers for Schools and other employers organised by staff at the school; An Inspired to Aspire programme led by Salford Foundation and Christine Baldwin Community Champion and enterprise advisor from Asda; Sessions with Learn Live during British Science Week; and the Ray Programme led by The Sixth Form Bolton.

Our Year 11 Students have been supported throughout the year by Louise Maree from Connexions who has met students on teams, spoken to them over the telephone or seen them in person to ensure our students continued to receive 1:1 personal guidance.

We are very fortunate to work with so many amazing people who are all willing to give their time to work with students at Smithills School. They not only provide the right CEIAG for them personally, but they are instrumental in supporting students in their careers journey and future life choices.

To keep the momentum going and build on this achievement we will now be working on achieving the Inspiring IAG award for Careers Education.

HUGE THANKS to everyone involved in delivering or supporting the delivery of CEIAG at Smithills. There are far too many to mention!!
