Our number one priority is to ensure that all at Smithills School are safe. With this in mind our Covid safe rules will apply in school until the end of term. So pupils, staff and visitors will continue to wear masks, socially distance from each other and isolate if identified as a contact.

This is supported in a letter from the local Authority - CLICK HERE

Information will come out next week regarding September start. Thank you for supporting Smithills School and your children.

Due to the increase of positive COVID 19 cases in Bolton we will be carrying out Lateral Flow Tests for pupils in school (not those who are currently isolating) on Wednesday 26th May. Most parents already consented to your child being tested (before they returned to school in March) so you don’t need to do anything.

If you have not consented, but would like your child to be tested please complete the consent form on the app and return it by the end of the day on Tuesday 25th May. If you cannot access the consent form via the app please collect a paper copy from reception and complete it by Tuesday 25th May or if you are unsure whether you gave permission in March feel free to complete the form again just in case.

Pupils should attend school as normal on Wednesday (unless they are isolating) and will be collected from lessons to be tested.

Due to the recent surge of positive Covid cases in Bolton, we will be keeping our Covid safe protocols in place.

This includes the wearing of facemasks, year groups continuing to work in bubbles and visitors to school limited to only those that are essential. Our aim is to ensure that all of our children and staff remain as safe as they can be. This is supported by the Local Authority and Public Health Bolton. We will review the situation at half-term. Thank you for your support in keeping all who learn and work at Smithills safe.

Year Group Closures

In the event of a positive COVID case in a year group it may be necessary to partially close (only certain students) for fully close a year group bubble.

It may also be necessary to close a year group bubble due to staffing issues.

When this happens parents will receive a text from the school, the child will come home with a letter and we will update the website here:

Current Year Group Bubble Closures:

Year 7 - No Closure.

Year 8 – No Closure.

Year 9 - No Closure.

Year 10 – No Closure.

Year 11 – No Closure.

If you are unsure about sending your child into school please contact us.

What should I do if my child tests positive?

1. The website will automatically alert the school to the positive test.

2. Your entire household should isolate for 10 Days.

3. You should book a PCR test at your local testing centre to confirm the result.

Further guidance can be found at: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/what-your-test-result-means

Can you change it to:

What should I do if my child tests positive?

1. The website will automatically alert the school to the positive test.

2. Your entire household should isolate for 10 Days.

NHS Test and Trace is reintroducing confirmatory PCR testing for positive LFD tests conducted at all assisted testing sites, including schools and colleges. This means that all staff, pupils and students who get a positive LFD test, whether at home or supervised at their school or college, should get a confirmatory PCR. The PCR test should be booked immediately either online or by calling 119 and should be undertaken within 2 days.

Staff, students and pupils who had a positive LFD test result, and their close contacts and other members of their household, should self-isolate immediately in line with NHS Test and Trace guidance and while awaiting the PCR result. If the PCR test is negative, it overrides the LFD test and the staff member, pupil or student can return to school or college, and their close contacts can end their self-isolation.

If your PCR result is negative you need to email the result to office@smithillsschool.net and your child can return to school.

How do I get a home test for my child?

You will need to register on the Smithills App for a home test. There is a short form to fill in. If you do not yet have the Smithills App please email office@smithillsschool.net and we will register you.

How do I do the home test?

There are clear instructions in the test pack and here is a short video: https://youtu.be/S9XR8RZxKNo

When should I do the tests?

You should test your child twice a week. Once on a Sunday and again on a Wednesday.

You do not need to test your child during school holidays ( you will not be given enough tests to do so). But you do need to test them on the Sunday before they return to school.

How do I register the result from the test?

Once you have registered for the home test kits using the Smithills App, you will be sent a ling and an activation code to WONDE Testing. Simply follow the instructions on the website. It will then automatically direct you to government website to complete the registration of the test. The website will automatically alert the relevant people in the school if your child test positive.

· Go to Website: https://testregister.co.uk/login

· It will ask you to enter your email address.

· It will then email you a link to take you to the testing website.

· Click on this link.

· It will take you to this page

You must then “submit to gov.uk.”

It will ask you a series of questions about your gender and ethnicity.

It does ask for the Postcode of the school which is BL1 6JS.
