A Guide for EMPLOYERS & EXTERNAL PROVIDERS

(Including FE, HE, Training providers and Apprenticeship providers)

Supporting Smithills School with GATSBY

The Gatsby Bench Marks are a framework of 8 guidelines that define the best careers provision in schools.

We would welcome support to deliver our CAREERS programme to provide the best possible support and source of inspiration for students across all our year groups, whilst also demonstrating sustained achievement of the Gatsby benchmarks from 2020 and beyond.

Can you help?

  • Employers who can support us to meet benchmarks 2 to benchmark 6.

Work Experience :  If you are in a position to offer any of our Year 10 students an opportunity to take part in a week of work experience please                     contact the school by telephone on 01204 842382 or email workexperience@smithillsschool.net

  • FE/HE/Training providers support with benchmark 7 (linking with other benchmarks e.g. 2/3/4)

Support request for CEIAG Conferences 2019-20

Each year group takes part in an annual CEIAG conference. All students are required to engage with an employer in every year they are at school. We also build in opportunities along the way to work with FE, HE, training providers and apprenticeship providers.

Our Conference are all themed to help develop increasing knowledge and understanding to support students with each stage of their career journey.

  • In Year 7 students explore careers of interest to them, look at employability and are encouraged to develop future aspirations.

  • In Year 8 students look at STEM careers, explore the range of subjects that can support such future careers and make plans for their own bright futures

  • In Year 9 students explore future option subjects and learn more about progression routes for Post 16 , Post 18 and apprenticeships.

  • In Year 10 students prepare for work and go the through the process of searching and applying for suitable placements, helping plan for success in their own Y10 Work Experience.

  • In Year 11 students take part in Mock Interviews with employers and representatives from FE/ HE & Training providers. They also learn about budgeting for the real world and prepare for progression to University or onto a degree apprenticeship.

What does support look like?

  • Whole year group assemblies
