HEAD OF SUBJECT - MR A.Scholefield
The aim of the Business Studies Department is to increase understanding of the real world of business, and to prepare students for employment and further education. All of the business teachers have professional business experience outside of teaching as well as teacher training qualifications. This gives them real world experience which they can pass onto students.
This qualification equips learners with the skills andconfidence to explore how different businesssituations affect business decisions. It is a well roundedintroduction to the subject. The qualificationwill encourage learners to make informed choicesabout a wide range of further learning opportunitiesand career pathways as well as develop life skills that enable them to become financially andcommercially aware.
At the end of Year 9, students have the opportunity to choose a business qualification.
Resources include a range of textbooks and a large data bank that includes case studies, business games, and company profiles. Many of business studies classes are carried out in one of the school's ICT suites. Extra-curricular activities include the Business Studies Club at lunchtimes and enterprise activities which operate throughout the year.
Many students have found that their GCSE course provides them with a very useful grounding for future studies in A level and Applied Business Studies, Accountancy, Economics and Law. The department has strong links with Bolton sixth form providers.
