I Remember...

The cold, somewhat dangerous walk to Barlow Park for hockey.
Mr Turner's hot air balloon with gigantic bunsen burner - hence the name 'Bunsen Turner' (of course!). We all had to hold it down until the balloon filled with hot air but we all let go at the wrong moment apart from one student whose name I think was Dennis.. my namesake in fact who started to sail over the goalposts on the sports field outside the woodwork block. (maybe 1969)
Being proud to have a new swimming pool on site.
The fantastic social life this school gave me.

Mr Boardman (Billy to us) - a ferocious well built man with wispy white hair and glasses. He couldn't bear feeling fingers or ties on his woodwork benches and would hurl a chisel at the offending article: once landing between the index and middle finger of a boy's hand and once severing a boys tie.
