From The Headteacher
Welcome to Smithills! Our website will give you a brief insight into the workings of our school, but you can get far more information by arranging to visit us and see the school for yourself.
Smithills enjoyed its best ever examination results last year. 51% of our students achieved 5 or more A* to C grades including English and Maths. This is a wonderful achievement and the current Year 11 will do even better than last year’s students!
Smithills has so much to offer all its students but academic achievement at the heart of our work. The staff here are wonderful and match what goes on in lessons perfectly to what your son or daughter needs to learn. We work tirelessly to get things right for your child. We are continually looking at each and every part of the school to see how we can make it even better for your son or daughter.

Before I applied for the post of Headteacher I did my research very well. I found out that Smithills is a wonderful place in which to work and an even better place in which to learn! When your children come here they will be cared for more than in any school I have ever known. They will be happy and they will be safe, but they will also be challenged to do their very best in school all the time.
The school offers so much more to its students too. Fantastic sports facilities including our swimming pool; free music lessons and instrument loan available to all; trips to destinations as far away as America and Kenya in the coming year (as well as many closer to home!). At the end of five years at Smithills you will be so proud of your child’s academic performance, so proud of the huge range of activities in which they have been involved and be so glad that they came to Smithills.
One of the big questions as a teacher is to decide if you would be happy to send your own children to the same school where you work. We hope the answer will always be yes. If my children were still of secondary school age I would be delighted if they came to Smithills!
Come and see us at work. We look forward to welcoming you in the near future!
