Science

Course Outline

In Year 7 students follow a balanced Science course with topics in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. They are placed in one of four sets initially based on how well they performed in the KS2 test.

Students continue to develop the five key ideas within science that they started at KS2. Each topic is linked to one or a mixture of key ideas. The five key ideas are Cells, Interdependence, Particles, Forces and Energy.
Pupils in the H band will follow a course designed for them to take their GCSE Science a year early.

Assessment

Internal Assessment:

Students are assessed on their effort in class, attainment in homework and behaviour by the

science teacher.

They sit four tests during the year to assess their progress.
Students are also assessed on their ability to carry out practical investigations and experiments.

Targets

  • Students are set a target level to achieve by the end of KS3.
  • By the end of Year 7 it is expected that each student will have progressed at least 20% of the way towards their end of key stage target.
  • Parents will be informed by letter if pupils progress is causing concern.
