Public Examinations & Certificates

Public examinations are important and the certificates awarded tell employers and colleges of the levels that you have obtained in the different courses you have taken at school. However, it must be realised that all courses are of value in many ways other than simply achieving an examination certificate.

All courses at Smithills can lead to a certificate being awarded by an examining body. There are a number of certificates that can be obtained:-

General Certificate of Secondary Education GCSE
BTEC First Certificate       -         worth 2 GCSEs
BTEC First Diploma           -         worth 4 GCSEs
Vocational Double Award     -      worth 2 GCSEs
Unit Awards Scheme and Entry Level Certificates
